WESTFIELD -- The second rider involved in a fatal dirt bike collision in Westfield on Sunday is in critical condition today at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, according to hospital spokesman Keith O'Connor.
Luis Gonzalez, 32, of Holyoke, suffered serious injuries in the collision, which killed 22-year-old Carlos Colon, also of Holyoke.
The incident took place in the woods off East Mountain Road, near East Mountain Country Club, at about 5:45 p.m. Sunday.
Colon was taken to Noble Hospital in Westfield where he was pronounced dead.
Both men were riding unregistered bikes on private property when the accident happened, officials said.
It is unclear whether the property belongs to the East Mountain Country Club or Barnes Municipal Airport; both border the site of the collision.
It's not known whether Gonzalez will face any charges when he recovers.
The Massachusetts Environmental Police Department is investigating the incident because it involved off-road vehicles, Westfield police said.
