Melendez was thrown from his motorcycle after hitting the center guardrail on I-91 near Exit 10 in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD - A 31-year-old Springfield man who was critically injured Monday night in a motorcycle accident on Interstate 91 has died of his injuries, state police said.
Wilfredo Melendez died late Monday at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, where he had been in critical condition in the intensive care unit since the accident.
According to police, Melendez was heading north at about 8 p.m. on I-91 on a 2001 Honda CBR600 motorcycle when he apparently lost control and struck the center guardrail near exit 10, which leads to Main Street in Springfield's North End.
He was thrown from the motorcycle, landing in the left travel lane while the bike skidded for several hundred feet before stopping.
The accident remains under investigation
