For every person that "likes" the Alekman DiTusa LLC page on Facebook, five dollars will be donated to the Pioneer Valley Red Cross to support tornado victims.
SPRINGFIELD - Even after the Alekman-DiTusa law firm had their 55 State Street office damaged in the June 1 tornado, the company is still assisting others affected by its destruction.
According to Ryan Alekman, the firm contacted Aaron Sachs, a lawyer they know in tornado-ravaged Joplin, Mo., and copied an innovative idea he used in order to generate tornado relief funds. For every person that ‘likes’ the Alekman DiTusa LLC page on Facebook, five dollars will be donated to the Pioneer Valley Red Cross. After Alekman appeared on Rock 102 and Lazer 99.3 and donated $5,000 on behalf of the firm, the Bax and O’Brien show posted the link to the firm’s Facebook page on their own. This dramatically increased the number of ‘likes.’
Alekman said the goal is to get to 1,000 ‘likes’ “as soon as possible,” which would raise and additional $5,000. So far, the page has 530 ‘likes,’ which equates to $2,650.
“I wish we could do more,” he said, in terms of donating money.
Alekman has also donated his time to the Pioneer Valley Red Cross as a Public Affairs Officer. Due to his ability to speak Spanish, Alekman has appeared on local Spanish radio stations and set up collection points there.
“I spent all day Friday speaking on Spanish radio,” he said. “It’s nice to be able to help out.”
Overall, Alekman is pleased by the amount of support given to tornado victims, whether it come through monetary donations or not.
“There are people who don’t have money who want to help,” he said.
