SPRINGFIELD – A “pineapple grenade” found outside the Greater Love Church of God and Christ at 65 Newland St. prompted a response from the Springfield arson and bomb squad on Saturday morning, according to Fire Department spokesman Dennis G. Leger.
Leger said the device, which he described as a “World War-style pineapple grenade,” was found by a groundskeeper just after 10 a.m. It turned out that the grenade was an empty shell, and had been deactivated. Public safety officials were at the church for approximately 30 minutes, Leger said.
