SPRINGFIELD – Police are continuing to investigate the shooting of a man who drove, bleeding profusely from gunshot wounds to his arm and chest, to the Mason Square fire station midday on Saturday.
Assistant District Attorney Donna S. Donato said Levonne Pemberton, age unknown, drove himself to the fire station around 2 p.m. and had a passenger in the car. The passenger was uncooperative with police investigating the shooting, and the details were still fuzzy on Saturday evening.
Pemberton was taken to Baystate Medical Center by ambulance to undergo surgery, but was expected to live, Donato said.
"There seems to be some controversy about where this crime happened," Donato said. "And we seem to know very little about the why."
Donato said police received a 911 call about shots fired around State and Mapledell streets just before Pemberton arrived at the nearby fire station.
