FEMA tornado recovery centers in Monson, West Springfield now Small Business Administration disaster loan centers

The Federal Emergency Management Administration disaster recovery centers in Monson and West Springfield became Small Business Administration disaster loan outreach centers on Monday, according to the Small Business Administration.

In addition, the center in West Springfield will close Friday, while the centers in Monson and Springfield helping victims of the June 1 tornado will remain open until further notice.

Small Business Administration customer service representatives will be available to help people and businesses that suffered damage during the June 1 tornadoes that devastated the region. A representative from FEMA will also continue to be available.

“There will be fewer personnel there,” Alberto A. Pillot, a public information officer with FEMA’s Westfield office, said Friday.

Small Business Administration’s staffers can give out loan applications, answer questions about its disaster loan program and help people complete their applications.

Aug. 15 is the deadline to return SBA disaster loan applications and to apply for assistance from FEMA.

The disaster center in Monson is at Granite Valley Middle School at 21 Thompson St. The disaster center in West Springfield is on the third floor of the J. Edward Christian Municipal Office Building at 26 Central St.

Starting Monday, the centers in West Springfield and Monson will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The disaster recovery center in Springfield is at Massachusetts Technology Park, 1 Federal St., Building 104. Hours of operation for the Springfield disaster recovery center are Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center is closed Sundays.

Tornado survivors can register with FEMA or get information by calling 800-621-FEMA (3362) or 800- 462-7585 (TTY) for people who are deaf or hard of hearing. Multilingual assistance is available at both numbers. For online registration, go to www.DisasterAssistance.gov. The SBA customer service number is 800-659-2955 or 800-877-8339 (TTY).
