The rankings bode well for Baker's re-election in 2018.

Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker was - again - named the most popular governor in the U.S.

Morning Consult on Thursday released its latest rankings of gubernatorial popularity, based on surveys of more than 250,000 voters nationwide.

Baker, a Republican, was ranked No. 1, followed by Maryland Republican Larry Hogan. The survey found that Baker had a 69 percent approval rating, with 16 percent of respondents disapproving of the job he is doing.

The least popular governor was New Jersey Republican Chris Christie, followed by Connecticut Democrat Dannel Malloy.

Baker has repeatedly been at the top in various gubernatorial rankings, with his job approval ratings hovering around 70 percent. Although he is a Republican in a blue state, Baker has worked well with Democrats and has broken with the national Republican Party repeatedly, particularly on social issues.

The rankings bode well for Baker's re-election in 2018. He is facing a challenge from three Democrats, none of whom has significant name recognition or a significant amount of cash compared with Baker.

The surveys were conducted between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31, 2017.
