Nathan Marrin, of Chicopee, was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

CHICOPEE - Police shot a man and a pit bull dog with electronic stun guns after the man allegedly argued with police and resisted arrest Thursday morning.

Police arrested Nathan Marrin, 36, of 133 Frontnac St., at about 7:15 a.m. and charged him with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. He is to be arraigned in Chicopee District Court later in the day, said Michael Wilk, public information officer.

Officer Missy Lyman initially responded to a complaint for a man outside screaming and disturbing the neighborhood. When she responded, she saw Marrin, who she knows from past problems, screaming, pacing and kicking a mailbox, Wilk said.

He allegedly refused to comply with orders to secure the about 120-pound pit bull dog he had with him and ignored other commands to get to his knees from Lyman and Officer Christina Obert who arrived too assist, Wilk said.

Marrin is accused of yelling and swearing at the officers. When he clenched his fists and advanced toward Lyman, she hit him with her stun gun, he said.

The dog, which had been circling the two officers, started growling and running toward the officers. Ober then hit the dog, which had on collar, with her stun gun and it ran to its owner's home, he said.

"The male suspect, once Tased, continued to resist and try to move his arms from being handcuffed. He was handcuffed and put into a cruiser," Wilk said.

Officials from the T.J. O'Connor Animal Control Center were called and took custody of the dog, he said.
