Gordon / staff photographer - State and Chicopee police investigate a Monday afternoon robbery at Furnari Jewelers on Memorial Drive.CHICOPEE — Chicopee police are investing an armed robbery that was reported at about 4 p.m. Monday at Furnari Jewelers at 1189 Memorial Drive.
Police are looking for a light-colored sedan with three occupants – two males and one female.
According to communications heard on the police scanner, at least one firearm was involved and one of the suspects was shot.
Crime scene tape has been put up around the business, which shares a small strip plaza with three other businesses, including a nail studio and florist. Planet Fitness is adjacent to the plaza. The gym remains open, and customers could be seen walking freely in and out.
State police could be seen a short time ago taking photos inside and outside of the jewelry store.
All lanes of Memorial Drive are open.
According to CBS 3 Springfield, media partner of The Republican and MassLive.com, an employee shot at the suspects.
The son of the jewelry store's owner told CBS 3 Springfield that his father was punched in the head and was taken to Baystate Medical Center. He's expected to be OK, according to CBS 3 Springfield.
