Authorities aren't saying much about the accident, which reportedly seriously injured a 12-year-old boy around 4:40 p.m. Friday.
AGAWAM -- City and state police are investigating a serious accident involving a young bicyclist who was struck by an SUV late Saturday afternoon in the Feeding Hills section of Agawam, according to a published report.
An Agawam police officer who was contacted early Saturday morning declined to comment, referring a press inquiry to Lt. Eric Gillis, the Agawam Police Department's public information officer. Gillis could not immediately be reached for comment.
The incident occurred near 907 North St. at around 4:40 p.m., according to 22News, which identified the young cyclist as a 12-year-old boy. The TV station claimed the boy was struck by a sport utility vehicle on North Street, but that information could not be independently verified early Saturday.
A Massachusetts State Police spokesman in Framingham was unable to confirm if a state police accident-reconstruction team participated in the investigation, as was reported by 22News.
According to 22News, Gillis, in a news release, said the boy was taken to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield for treatment of apparently serious injuries.
The incident reportedly forced the closure of a section of North Street for several hours.
