In Baer's tenure, the Springfield station added a newscast for its FOX 6 affiliate and lengthened its morning news.
SPRINGFIELD – David B. Baer has left his job as news director of abc40/FOX 6 television after just more than three years.
Friday was his last day. Reached by phone, Baer, 61, said the decision was his. He described it as moving on to “greener pastures,” but said he has not finalized his plans.
He came to abc40 from Portland, Maine. In his tenure, the station added a newscast for its FOX 6 affiliate and lengthened its morning news. All told, the station produces 5.5 hours of news programming a day, he said.
“I’m really proud of this department,” Baer said. “With our recent tornado coverage, I would put that up against the work of any major market in the country.”
Cissy Baker, a former Washington bureau chief for Tribune Broadcasting, will take over as interim news director, Baer said.
